Brant and I had the best time on our 4 day whirlwind trip. Here's a little of what we did. We headed out of San Diego at 10am on Friday and drove up I-5 through LA which is always a treat. We cut over to the 101 on some small farm road (Hwy 46?) and then took a "short cut" on Hwy 41 which was super windy and somewhat like a roller coaster. Finally we got to San Luis Obispo and checked in at the Madonna Inn - we had the Currier & Ives room. It's amazingly ornate and very quaint. We then headed out to check out the town and determine what to do that night. We found the downtown area - it is very neat. We headed back to the hotel to quickly change clothes and call a cab to take us the 2 miles to our nighttime adventure. We walked and window shopped, then ate at Woodstock's Pizza before heading over to Bull's Tavern. What a crazy place - we had a great time and stayed out much later than we had in years.

Saturday we headed up Hwy 1 for a scenic drive. We stopped at Moonstone Beach and collected pebbles, then stopped at Hearst Castle and looked around at the gift shop and historical information. We didn't take the tour, but plan on returning to do so! We made it up to Carmel for dinner and toured the downtown shops. We decided it was best for us to just "window shop" once we spotted a pair of womens jeans for $695!!! We stayed at The Colonial Terrace Inn, a very quaint little B&B in an English Garden setting. When we return we will definitely stay there again as it was only a 3minute walk from the beach. We also could walk to downtown only 6 blocks away - perfect!

| Pt Lobos Reserve and Moonstone Beach |
Sunday we got up and headed for Pt. Lobos State Reserve, about 2 miles south of Carmel. We hiked the entire perimiter of the park and saw seals, sealions, sea otters, dolphins and lots of birds. It was so neat to be out in the middle of such a natural setting. These trails are not very rigorous so we hope that Ellie will be able to join us possibly next year on a couple of the shorter loops. After our hike we showered and headed up to Monterey and walked around Fisherman's Wharf. There was a man there with extremely tame parrots so we held the parrots and got our picture taken. It's bizarre to have a parrot climbing up your arm - a very strange feeling!

After dinner we got some firewood and headed down to the beach for a campfire on our last night. It was so much fun, so peaceful to listen to the waves crashing on the sand.
When we got home Monday night Ellie was so mad at us! She wasn't excited to see us at all, she was truly angry with us. Thank goodness it passed and she was more like herself this morning.
That's all for now - hopefully I'll have some pictures to post of Ellie with Brenda, Grannie and Pappy soon.
