This past weekend Miss Ellie Jo went to visit Mimi and Papa for the annual neighborhood 4th of July (a little early) block party/carnival. I'm sure we'll get the pictures from Papa after he recuperates from the weekend...Ellie can be quite tiring!
So Brant, Rhett and I had the house to ourselves (chuckle here...) Friday night I went out to dinner with the girls and Brant and Rhett had a boy party. They even got to skype with Nana during dinner! Saturday our mission was to get the kayak out onto the water. Brant installed the roof racks on the minivan, and by the grace of God, we got the kayak up on the racks without too much strife. We headed out to find a nice, quiet bay that wasn't too crowded for a little practice. What a joke - it was the first hot weekend in San Diego and everyone was headed to the beach. We actually found a perfect little cove by accident and enjoyed the afternoon putzing around the bay.

The kayak has a paddle that you use to get far enough away from the shore so the water is deep enough to put the foot pedals in. Click those babies into place, pull a pull-string on the left side and the rudder flips down in the back. There is a steering lever on the left side...just start pedaling and you're off! I'm sure it's different when you're actually out in the open ocean and fishing...but puttering around the bay without waves was plenty of fun for me. When you're ready to come back in...pull the pull-string on the right and the rudder flips up, take the foot pedals out of place and you're done. Easy peasy.
Rhett also enjoyed the beach...although he would have had more fun if his sissy had been there too. Next time.
