When Brant first started working at Senomyx, it was a temporary position that we were SO GRATEFUL for. After 4 months of unemployment, with me 6 months pregnant, we were thrilled that he had been offered a contract position. Of course there were all the comments about working with your spouse...and we didn't really know how we would like it. It didn't really matter how we would like it - we would make it work because that was what needed to happen. And over the next 16 months, we realized we loved working together. And I'm not just saying that - you can ask him too! We weren't on the same projects, but knew enough about each others jobs to understand what was going on and to commiserate...it gave us a chance to talk as adults during breaks in the day... Needless to say, his departure was bittersweet for all.
Thankfully he had a few days off, and boy I could get used to that! He took Ellie to school and Rhett to daycare, picked up kids and the house was tidy when I got home! He finished several home improvement projects, and even made time to run on the beach and be reminded of what a beautiful place we live in. These pictures are from his adventure from Torrey Pines State Beach to Blacks Beach and back.

Then we celebrated Brant's birthday...the day started off with homemade sausage biscuits, scrambled eggs and fruit salad for breakfast, along with the birthday boy getting to sleep in! We relaxed at home for part of the day, opened presents, went to El Zarape for dinner, and enjoyed cake and ice cream at home. I planned on taking more pictures, but it's pretty tough while also chasing Rhett...

Here's a great picture of the guys all decked out for the Arkansas vs. Alabama game last weekend. Adorable!

The following day was Brant's first day of work at Optimer Pharmaceuticals where he is enjoying the new atmosphere and adventures a new job provides! We are so proud of him!
