This is Ellie's "default" face when she's happy and excited. Where have we seen this face before...well, honestly I still make that face regularly. She has been quite the character lately, giving Momma and Daddy quite a hard time. Poor Brant...one night last week he was in charge of dinner for Ellie. I was out for a couple of hours, and he was so excited for his time with the little princess. I arrived home to him standing in her bedroom doorway, Ellie's sitting in her bed and Brant is saying to me "if she gets out of that bed again there will be NO cartoons in the morning" (that is like the worst thing that could happen to Ellie in the morning...) What happened? They were so happy when I left! Apparently Brant decided to make scrambled eggs for dinner...but Ellie wasn't happy with that. Since we've started having omelettes for an easy dinner on Friday nights, that is how she thinks eggs should be served. But, Momma makes omelettes, Daddy is not an omelette pro. So Brant makes the scrambled eggs and serves them to Ellie. She says "Daddy, this is NOT RIGHT! This is not an omelette! I only want an omelette!" and Brant says "Daddy doesn't know how to make omelettes, so we're having scrambled eggs tonight" he even offers to put cheese on them so they're more omelette-like. Not good enough for Ellie, who takes a handful of scrambled eggs and throws them on the floor. Wow - Brant's feelings are hurt AND he's livid. He tries to maintain his composure, puts Ellie in the corner for her behavior, and eats his own eggs. The night just got worse from there. Poor Brant...he says he's not looking forward to the teenage years.
We have all been HOT! It topped out at 101degrees in our kitchen yesterday, and I'm not kidding. Don't worry James and DeAnna - it's supposed to cool off this week and be back to normal for your visit! Speaking of that - Uncle James, Aunt DeAnna and cousin Brenner are coming to visit us on Thursday! We are so excited...have plans to go to Casa Guadalajara, the zoo, the beach, and whatever else tickles their fancy. It will be so fun to see the cousins play together. We've already started prepping Ellie...reminding her that baby Brenner is coming to visit and that he's going to play with her toys. We didn't say "he's going to demolish your stuff" - we figure she'll realize that soon enough on her own.
This is how Ellie and Eleanor stayed cool yesterday afternoon...playing in the baby pool. Brant and I may get in ourselves this afternoon...oh wait - there's not room for us!

We're off to the Senomyx Summer Party this afternoon with Mimi and Papa. It's going to be at the Del Mar Racetrack this year...which is right on the ocean, but also on blacktop so we'll see how hot it is there. Ellie is already so excited that we're going to a party today that she's bouncing off the walls...
